Spring formals and prom are just around the corner. Like always, it is an event when we don’t know what to wear and we have to shop for that perfect dress that will make us look cute, pretty and unique. Shopping for formal evenings can be stressful, especially when you don’t know what and where to look for cute outfits at affordable prices. The first and most important step is to know what’s flattering for your body shape. If you are petite, wearing those long overwhelming gowns will do you no favour. You should consider short, figure flattering dresses which also give you the advantage to play with really bright colours or bold prints without overdoing it. This first look, with dresses from express and forever21 is ideal in such a case.

White is the new black ladies! White colour is a popular fashion trend this spring and summer. This was a colour seen in many designers’ collections like Versace, Chanel, Gucci, Alberta Ferreti, Pucci and so many more. Needless to say it’s a standard summer colour that never goes out of fashion and you can never go wrong it. However, it can be tricky to carry given the different shades of it and how they look on your skin tone. Sometimes, it can even make you look fat or bulging in not-so-flattering areas. Hence, it’s very important to know your body shape and what shade of white suits you. Generally speaking White compliments very dark skin tones and the lightest skin tones best. If you have olive or yellow undertones or tanner skin, ivory colours suit more than anything with blue undertones as blue can make you look washed out or sick in some cases. But don’t let your complexion be the determinant all the time. Other things matter too such as how you accessorize it, how much of white are you wearing (head to toe vs. bottoms) and the fabric.

Red jeans (or any bright color jeans for that matter) are a viral trend hitting retail. Many celebrities like the Kardashians, Middleton, Fergie, Jessica Alba, Lauren Conrad and many more are seen sporting this fashion trend. I love it! Mainly due to its versatility. I think it’s suitable for pretty much all age ranges depending on how you carry it. It can make you look fun and flirty or chic; the possibilities are endless. I have brainstormed 3 looks for different looks using the same pair of red jeans from Guess. Hope you like it!

Pastels and candy colors are a huge trend this summer. It reminds me of 60’s fashion and cotton candy. The same colors in make-up are a bit hard to pull off by darker or more olive skin tones but they look really cute in clothing for any complexion. In fact, it brings s out the tan. It is a nice trend; the colors are very cool and summery, perfect for the hot weather. For those of you who’d like to add it to your wardrobe, I suggest starting off with one piece in this color (tops, bottoms or clutches) before you adopt it head to toe. Only because it does wash out the skin and could look dirty white if you’re taking lots of pictures with not so good camera or lighting. If you feel like you can’t pull it off but really want to try the trend, then simply use it as an accessory. Here are some inspirations:

This photograph is titled “Elks Fashion Show, 1956” but it’s odd to me that all the women are in bathing suits. I haven’t seen too many fashion shows in which bathing suits are the primary or exclusive garment featured. My guess is that this was really a local beauty pageant.
